In Chinese calendar, today it's not advisable to drink excessively hot water or take long hot baths on the day of Lidong (the Beginning of Winter)! These customs aren't just superstitions; they have health and scientific basis.

What is Lidong? Lidong is one of the twenty-four solar terms, symbolizing the beginning of winter, a time when all things are stored away and temperatures drop sharply. "Li" represents the beginning, and "Dong" represents the end and cold, marking the start of a resting period for agriculture.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that Lidong is a good time to nourish the kidneys and replenish Yang energy, suitable for eating warm foods such as black fungus, Chinese cabbage, and white radish.

Lidong Taboos: It's not advisable to drink large amounts of scalding hot water: This can cause sudden changes in body temperature, affecting blood pressure and circulation. Avoid taking long, hot baths: This can easily cause dry skin and dilated blood vessels, which is detrimental to cardiovascular health. Avoid going out too early: The morning air is chilly; the elderly and those with cardiovascular diseases should take extra care to keep warm.
