A 67-year-old dog owner in California, USA, was playing with his dog at Thornton State Beach in Daly City when he slipped and fell 500 feet (approximately 152 meters) off a cliff while trying to save his dog, and died instantly.

The incident occurred on the 19th. The man was chasing after his dog and, worried that it might fall off the cliff edge, rushed forward to grab it, but slipped and fell himself. After the fall, the dog seemed to sense something was wrong, pacing and barking at the scene until the owner's friend found it.

It is understood that the location is a popular dog-walking area, but because it is a cliff, owners are always extra careful. The 67-year-old man's body was later lowered from the bottom of the cliff by helicopter, and the dog was also rescued to safety. The man's family will take care of the dog.
