Hundreds of guinea pigs in the zoo! All thanks to one male guinea pig escaping – what did it do?

Legendary Guinea Pig "Randy"

The guinea pig enclosure at Hatton Adventure World Zoo in Warwickshire, England, is bustling with activity, home to hundreds of guinea pigs. But actually… it wasn't always like this. It's all thanks to a male guinea pig named "Randy."

In 2014, the zookeepers of the guinea pigs at the zoo suddenly noticed that 2-year-old Randy had become extremely thin. Initially, they thought it was due to some illness, but after examination, they discovered that the little guy was simply "too weak."

As for the reason for his weakness… well, he somehow escaped and became the emperor of the female guinea pigs' enclosure, establishing a harem. In just three weeks, he impregnated 100 female guinea pigs (there were only 100 females in total, and he ate them all). Guinea pigs typically give birth to at least four babies per litter, so Randy suddenly became the father of over 400 baby guinea pigs…

The incident was so sudden that the zoo had to urgently expand the guinea pig enclosure, and has continued to add new facilities over the years. As a result, the guinea pig enclosure has grown larger and larger, and is now a popular tourist attraction. Of course, no new guinea pigs are being introduced; the enclosure is now entirely… Randy and his family, hahaha.
